New Yorkers - The Lobby Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental

Have you ever been at a bar, and wondered to yourself, "Why did I pay $20 for my  mediocre and completely pretentious pink ginger cosmo?" You look around, and on the surface this bar seems like any other stylish Manhattan bar. Nothing groundbreaking; there are couches, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and chic New Yorkers milling around. The architecture isn't spectacular, there aren't Picassos on the wall, and the flavors in the strange drinks don't quite fit. Then you remember you're in the Lobby Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental on the Upper West Side, and you have one of the best views in the city.

Perched overlook the NYC skyline, the bar offers a spectacular view of Columbus Circle and beyond. The ambience and soft chatter behind you no longer matters; you feel as through you are part of the city lights as you look out of the massive windows. The certain lightheadedness that occurs after a few drinks  combined with the view evokes a wonderful on-top-of-the-world sensation. Are the outrageously overpriced drinks worth the view and the experience? You can be the judge.
